How to Replace the Flint in Your Zippo
Replacing the Flint in Your Zippo
Flints should be replaced approximately every few weeks for the average user.
To replace the flint, we need to remove it from the flint tube:
-
First, remove the inner unit (insert) from the case.
-
Turn it and unscrew the flint spring with a small screwdriver or a coin. Carefully remove the spring.
Tip: The spring is under tension, so make sure it doesn’t fly off.
-
Turning the inner unit (insert) back upward, remove any remaining flint pieces by gently tapping the inner unit on a hard surface.
Suggestion: Remove any stubborn flint shards or residue with an unfolded paperclip.
-
Insert a new flint into the brass flint tube. Make sure not to confuse the brass tip at the end of the flint spring. While it may look like a flint, it is not a flint.
-
Replace the flint spring and turn it clockwise until it’s tight.
Important Tip: Ensure that the screw is tight so the lid can close completely. A tight seal will help slow down the evaporation of lighter fluids. Retighten if the lid doesn't close.
-
If the flint wheel sticks after installing a new flint, turn the wheel backward several times.
Suggestion: You can keep extra flints underneath the felt pad for future use.
